We care about our Patients. Let us know how we are doing.
I would like to start off by expressing my gratitude and satisfaction with the Fite Eye Center. The office has always been a safe and comfortable environment on every visit. The staff has been nothing short of wonderful and always provides answers to my questions and concerns. They are always thorough and supply me with the best information available in regard to any procedure before it takes place.
Dr. Fite is perhaps the most gifted ophthalmologist that I have ever been to. I tell everyone I know he is my guardian angel! He is masterful at his craft; I have never had any complications or concerns with his procedures.
I first started having trouble with my vision when I was a little girl. I was in glasses since the time I was 4 years old. As I got older my vision became worse. I opted to have LASIK vision correction to aid in this problem from another ophthalmologist in a different state. The surgery had complications but overall I thought it went well or so it seemed.
For a few years, my vision fluctuated but remained in a range that I could see somewhat comfortably with the aid of glasses and/or contacts. Eventually, my eye sight began to degenerate to the point that I was almost legally blind in my left eye. I spent many months seeing various doctors, all of which who wanted to perform a cornea transplant. I asked if there were any alternative options. Every doctor I spoke with said that my eye was beyond hope and a cornea transplant was the only viable option. I spoke to a woman who worked at the University of Michigan hospital (Dr. Pruhit) and she told me about a procedure involving prosthetic implants called Intacs. My insurance was not accepted by the U of M hospital, so she recommended a doctor whose office did accept it, Dr. Fite.
On my initial visit to Dr. Fite, he discovered that there was significant scarring on my cornea as a result of the LASIK surgery. He then performed a PTK surgery to remove as much scar tissue as possible. My vision got better for a while but then there was an issue with the shape of my cornea. It was impossible to keep a contact in my eye and glasses did little help. Dr. Fite wanted to try all alternatives to invasive surgery to correct my vision but it came down to having the INTACS surgery. The surgery itself was painless and very quick.
Before I received INTACS, my best corrected vision in my left eye was 20/200 and after the surgery my vision has stabilized at 20/40, which is a significant increase in vision. The procedure was done just 2 weeks ago. There has been some fluctuation in my vision which can be very emotional, but overall I feel like I made the right decision. For as long as I remember, I have not been able to see this well. The first thing I did was sit down and read a newspaper (3 days after the surgery), an activity I had not done in over 3 years. I can now drive safely and with confidence. With my newfound increase in vision, I no longer have to burden my family with menial tasks such as reading labels for me or driving me everywhere all the things we all take for granted. I am able to work without having to sit 3 inches from my computer screen! Dr. Fite has not only given me my vision back, but also my freedom to function as an independent human being.
I would like to personally thank not only Dr. Fite but especially Traci, who worked long and hard to get my insurance company to recognize this procedure should be a payable benefit under their plan. So thank you both, and a special thanks to your wonderful staff. I will count my blessing each and every day!
Thank you for making the entire LASIK procedure a very positive experience. Your entire staff is extremely courteous and knowledgeable. I waited seven years to have refractive surgery because I wanted to find the "perfect" surgeon. I know I made the correct choice for myself. It is amazing how incredibly well I can see. Thank you!!
I just wanted to "Thank You" very much for all of your expertise, hard work, patience and wonderful care!! I was really nervous the day of the surgery. I also couldn't hear very well with just one hearing aide. Everyone was just wonderful, and I didn't feel nervous at all. Thank you for taking such good care of my eyes! My sister & sister-in-law are trying to juggle their schedules to have LASIK performed by Dr. Fite also!
